Blog Post #1
This is blog post #1 for my LIS 201 project. The subject I chose for the final paper in this class was blackouts in pro sports. Blackout policy in sports is when professional sports leagues restrict TV viewing of games by geography. The thinking behind is that fans will be more likely to come to the game if the games are unable to be on television. This has become a hot button issue in sports and has angered fans across the country. This is an important topic for sports fans and and in the subject of media rights. Fans believe that the sports leagues are trying to maximize their profits while the sports league believe that they are protecting their media providers and trying to maximize attendance at games. This issue has changed throughout the years and will continue to in the future, especially with the rise of streaming games through the internet.
